Trena brings a sexy, sassy, edgy, impressive vocal performance twirling and twisting around the eclectic saxy sounds of featured saxophonist, Paul “Saxxy” Bunuan of the Ekolu Band on her 2020 newly released R&B/Smooth Jazz single, Higher.
Trena teamed up with talented co-writers and producers, Alfred Eddings, Chris Parris, Brian Chism, Shaharoh, Lorenzo Pryor, Jaz Williams and mastering engineer, Scott Hull, of Masterdisk.
Whether it’s performing with a multi-piece funk band or accompanied by a piano or saxophone player, Trena brings a high energy effect and spitfire performance with her captivating presence on stage in the world of music entertainment. Born in Alton, Illinois, she shares the hometown of world-renown jazz trumpeter Miles Davis and the great soul-singer Luther Ingraham.
Trena comes from a family of great musicians and entertainers. She began her musical journey very early in life and at age 10, competed in talent shows. By age 14, she began playing high school gigs and clubs with various funk bands comprised of multi-talented musicians including guitarist Edmund “Petie” Henderson, vocalist Mark Lott, Angela"Terry"Jones, Reggie Wagner, Dilbert Caldwell, Rodney "Fuzzy" Wallace, Elton Longstreet, Charles Armstead and band leader~record producer Howard Neal.
Early influences are Gladys Knight, Rufus and Chaka Khan and her deepest influence was her aunt, Jessie Smith, an original Ikette performer of the Ike and Tina Turner Revue Band and later on a lead vocalist with The Mirettes.
Trena’s played and perform at some of the best music venues with the world’s best musicians such as Najee, George Duke, Smooth Jazz Violinist~Noel Webb, Stevie Wonder at the NABSE convention, San Diego Smooth Jazz Anniversary Festival venues throughout the years. World renowned, jazz extraordinaire artist Najee hired her to tour countrywide as a featured vocalist. During this tour, she had the deepest honor to perform with Prince and Larry Graham at Studio 54 in Las Vegas.
Take Six was opening act for Najee and Trena was highlighted as the featured vocal performer at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. While on tour in New York, she also met Lenny White and her all-time favorite down-to-earth artist and music creator Herbie Hancock.
Trena has performed continuously for many years with the very best musicians and the hottest dance bands like Makai founded by Ben Felizardo and top of the Smooth Jazz music charts, international recording artist and guitar gifted guru Patrick Yandall.
You can catch her live performance with the popular funk band founded by Phillip Lozano, "Bump City Brass" stirring up the party scene in the hottest night clubs such as Humphreys Backstage, Grand Del Mar Resort, Club M, Tio Leo’s Night Club and Harrah’s Casino in the Southern California area. Her single Conundrum is also available on CD format only.
